Migrating a clinic group to AWS without dropping a request

The problem
Nova Health's appointment system was on a single VPS, with the database on the same box and no proper backup. A single power blip would have cancelled a day of appointments.
What we built
Moved the app to ECS Fargate, RDS Postgres with PITR, S3 for media, CloudFront in front. Set up alerts and on-call rotation with us as backup for the first quarter.
Outcome
99.97% uptime Q1. Zero appointments lost during migration. Recovery time objective dropped from 'pray' to 15 minutes.
